Our client, an expanding SME electronics company, are part way through a large rail infrastructure contract to develop, design and supply a range of telecoms products.
They are now at a stage where they need the services of a Senior Commercial Manager to manage their interface with the Principal Contractor, who they sub-contract to. Our client is v strong technically and highly regarded by the end-client, but they are not so strong commercially, hence this specialist commercial expertise they’re looking to lead them through the next 18 months.
This assignment will run for at least 18 months (although additional works are already being discussed) and although it will certainly start full-time, at least until end 2014, the work load may then taper down, with you working 2, 3 or 4 days/week through parts of 2015.
The contract being used on this project is the IET based ‘MF/1 (Rev 4)’ contract, with a supplementary schedule, which you will need to become v well acquainted with. The role will be 70% commercial (identifying/managing variations, low-level claim rebuttals, managing commercial risk, stopping our client doing work for free etc) with the remainder of your time being spent liaising with their own in-house technical project management team and managing relations with the Principal Contractor, which needs to be done robustly but with diplomacy.
A proven track record commercially managing 7-figure rail projects
Considerable experience handling claims and variations
Willing to travel as needed, to attend progress meetings
Experience working with rail industry contracts
