Salary: £55-65K + £10K bonus
This highly regarded and successful research and market intelligence practice supports and advises a range of prestigious investment clients across Europe and the US.
Continued expansion means they’re now looking to hire a Data Engineer in London, with strong SQL and Python skills, to build and support their financial models, manage their data aggregation routines and warehouse large datasets.
Working with their internal teams (Quantitative, Analytics, Research, Ops, Product) you will be: Developing and improving their data architecture; Designing and building database schema; Expanding their analytics toolset; Improving their data ingestion models, ETLs, and alarms; Documenting data models, ER diagrams, semantic models etc; Supporting the analysis of large aggregated datasets containing geographic, spatial, demographic and financial data.
- At least 2-3 years’ database development experience
- Knowledgeable in database design, optimisation techniques, warehousing and maintenance
- Scripting skills, ideally using Python (or Ruby or PHP), to write complex SQL queries to retrieve and manipulate data
- SQL Server, MySQL or PostgreSQL admin skills
- First-rate communication skills
- Degree qualified, probably in CompSci or Engineering, or able to demonstrate comparable experience.
This would suit someone with a genuine interest in data organisation (relational and non-relational data structures), analysis, visualisation and pipelining and associated technologies like Amazon RDS, Redshift and NoSQL techniques (MongoDB, HBase etc). You’re likely to have a thirst for knowledge and be keen to keep abreast of new cloud tech and programming languages, which they will provide the training for.
