Job Title: Head of IT
Location: Welwyn Garden City
TR Ref: 13173
Salary: £70-80K (+bonus)

The Global Head of Technology for this multi-billion pound, 60K-strong organisation has engaged us to recruit an accomplished Head of IT to lead a team of 12, who own and manage their UK Infrastructure and Architecture (serving approx. 2,500 users across 10 UK sites), whilst also working with overseas IT peers to strategically develop, deliver and support cost effective infrastructure solutions globally.

This is a great opportunity to join an impressive global company, with exciting prospects and plenty of opportunities to further develop your own career as well as your team members. To secure the very best talent, they are not bothered which industry you come from, as long as you can demonstrate the requisite management and tech skills and have the aptitude, drive and personality to bring the very best out of your team (utilising their in-house training academy) and will thrive in a dynamic, globally transforming organisation.

To be considered for this role you will need:
• A successful track record managing IT infrastructure / operations teams, ideally in a multinational environment, maintaining very high levels of service
• Although this is not a hands-on technical role you will need a breadth of IT infrastructure skills (inc. networking, security and databases) to effectively lead and develop this established team. Specifically you will need a working tech knowledge of:
o Windows and Linux OS
o MSSQL (and ideally also Oracle) databases
o They use mostly Windows and .NET software but Java would also be an asset
o IP networking – a combination of Cisco and Juniper firewalls, switches, routers etc
• Competency writing and presenting business cases, budgets etc
• Experience maintaining ISO9001 and ISO27001 accreditation (as they have large contracts with financial institutions and the government) and IT security compliance (via an InfoSec specialist).

The existing team of 12 is a strong, technically competent team, with little fire-fighting needed, so their attentions are now on improving their IT project and portfolio management skills and processes. Software applications management and support currently sits in another team (split between the UK and overseas), but this may also be brought into this team as the global transformation continues.

UK travel will be needed, as will occasional international travel, although this is expected to be less than 10% of your time.

This is a really exciting time to join this company, as they’re going through considerable change – including integrating the UK IT function into a new global IT organisation, which will also require you to host a global Centre of Excellence for one of the tech disciplines (TBC) within the next 6-12 months and get involved in forthcoming major projects such as consolidating global Data Centres or deploying a new global backbone. Clearly opportunities will exist for you to develop into a global role in the future.
