Our client is part of a £6bn group employing 60K staff worldwide, delivering back-office workflow and e-commerce solutions to large (mostly Fortune 500) clients, especially those in the finance, utilities & telecoms sectors.

Continued growth in the UK, where they have approx. 1,500 users, means their IT team are now hiring a dedicated SQL DBA to manage and monitor their 50 or so SQL Database Servers (plus a few Oracle).

This role is solely responsible for the performance, integrity and security of their data and the stability of the database systems. It is a really exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and rapidly expanding company that offers great training and career progression.

Key Responsibilities:
• Managing, configuring, maintaining and optimising their database systems [They have about 50 SQL Servers, each of which runs 5+ databases, each database containing <50GB of data]
• Building and maintaining highly scalable database systems
• Database configuration, setup and documenting (systems and services)
• Database failure management, high availability clustering and associated processes, inc backups & restore policies
• Advising on suitable hardware for hosting
• Optimisation of hardware and tuning systems for maximum performance
• Investigating slow running databases and analysing the root causes of problems. Analysis of CPU/Memory/Disk requirements and performance

[Please Note: This role does NOT require SQL development skills, as this is done by another internal team within their business].

Mandatory Skills:
• Microsoft SQL Server 200x
• SQL Server DBA experience
• MS Windows Administration
• Database Security

Desirable Skills:
• SQL Reporting Services
• Oracle and/or MySQL DBA experience
• Enterprise storage solutions
• SQL Scripting
• ITIL Certified

Personal Attributes
• Strong communication skills
• Organisational skills, time management and attention to detail are all essential
