National Minimum Wage increase
October 1st 2011 will see the National Minimum Wage increase once again. Most workers in the UK over school leaving age are legally entitled to be paid at least the National Minimum Wage and all employers have to pay it to you if you are entitled to it.
The new rates are:
Main Rate for workers aged 21 and over:
£6.08 (from £5.93) per hour
Development Rate for workers aged 18 to 20:
£4.98 (from £4.92) per hour
Development Rate for workers aged 16 to 17:
£3.68 (from £3.64) per hour
A minimum wage rate has also been introduced for apprentices:
Apprentices aged under 19:
£2.60 per hour
Apprentices aged 19 and over but in the first year of their apprenticeship:
£2.60 per hour
