Sound Advice for Jobseekers at DirectGov

Having recently reviewed the government’s new Jobseekers Advise section of their DirectGov portal, I thought this might be useful to share with some of applicants registering with us. Along with other selected recruitment consultancies Technology Resourcing was asked by the government to advocate this service, which having reviewed and been pleasantly surprised we are happy to do.

The website offers comprehensive advise to job seekers, including writing/updating your CV, planning your job hunting, online job searching, preparing for interviews, career advice, details of apprenticeships (yes they do still exist!), returning to work after an absence etc. It also offers practical advice on what to do if made redundant, including useful contacts and advise on what benefits are available to help people back into work.

Some of the job-hunting advice is already available from our own website eg Writing a CV and preparing for an interview, but we understand that another point of view could well be useful – I’m sure we haven’t covered everything and we’re certainly not perfect! It also offers some sound advice and tips if you are considering changing career direction or becoming self employed, again with the relevant links and contacts.

Finally the sales pitch a quote from the CEO, Jayne Nickalls: “Directgov has a vital role to play in the current economic climate, ensuring that public services are easy to access. It is our ambition to become an essential supersite, and putting Jobcentre Plus information within Directgov is an important part of our progress in achieving this goal.
